EPA recently announced that comprehensive reports and data on water enforcement in all 50 States will be made available to the public. This announcement is in line with the Obama Administration's push for transparency and the public's right to know.
After browsing EPA's webpage and information sources, I have identified several web pages that are worth knowing about. These EPA information sources identified below include all media and are not just limited to water enforcement.
· Facilities and Enforcement Activities Related to the Clean Water Act National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Program. This page provides information about federal and state enforcement of non-compliance with Clean Water Act (CWA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits that regulate the discharge of pollutants from point sources to waters of the United States.
· Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO). This online tool contains compliance inspections, violations and enforcement actions that have been conducted and taken by EPA/states enforcement programs at facilities throughout the United States. ECHO is not limited to water programs, but also includes, air, and hazardous waste actions. ECHO focuses on facility compliance and EPA/state enforcement of environmental regulations. http://www.epa-echo.gov/echo/index.html
· Another very impressive resource is EPA's envirofacts. Envirofacts website provides access to several EPA databases to provide you with information about environmental activities that may affect air, water, and land anywhere in the United States. http://www.epa.gov/enviro/html/ef_overview.html
