See what our EcoPlum columnists have to say...
It’s morning in New York and there is a chill in the air – time to dig that Scarecrow out of the basement and perch it on my front lawn alongside the yellow and purple mums that have begun to flower. The beauty of fall also brings with it a loss–and you can see it all over my face! That sun-kissed glow on my nose and cheeks is gone – and I want it back.
The best way to add a shimmer of light to your skin is with a highlighter (or illuminator)...
Rosie O’Donnell may be known for her role as Meg Ryan’s friend in “Sleepless in Seattle,” but now Rosie has a new role in “Meatless in NYC!” O’Donnell revealed that she had a heart attack on her blog on August 20, “it's a semi-sunny Monday/the light/bouncing off the flat Hudson/mish is sitting next to me/i am happy to be alive/last week i had a heart attack,” she writes. As a result, she has taken a more serious look into her own health, and decided to become a vegan.
Imagine piling guacamole on chip after chip after steak taco after cubano sandwich after corn on the cob with cotija cheese, chili powder and lime (or am I the only one who puts guacamole on everything?), and doing it without guilt. Habana Outpost, a Cuban restaurant in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, let’s you do just that, although their guac won’t stop you from moving down a couple of belt notches. The Outpost’s carefree dining is due to the significant measures that owner Sean Meenan has taken to build an eco-friendly and community-minded restaurant in downtown Brooklyn, New York, adding a green branch to his line of Habana cafes in New York and Malibu.
As the busy mom of a toddler, I’m always on the go, so I don’t get to shampoo my hair as much as I’d like (eating and bathing with soap come first and second).
If you’re thinking of going green with your workout, let yourself be inspired by the 2012 Olympic Games. Work out like an Olympian and explore how staying active and breathing fresh air can do your body good, while remembering to be conscious and use eco friendly products.
Are these the greenest Olympics ever? Can building a city that will only be used for two weeks really be green? Well maybe not totally green, but this year's Games are the most eco friendly Olympics of our time.
Labor Day is on the horizon, which means that late summer parties are on the agenda. As the season comes to a close, why not mix it up by trying a “green” theme for your next event? Your guests are sure to be impressed by your commitment to the environment…not to mention your fabulous eco friendly food, drink, and décor choices! Follow these tips, and you’re good to go!
I have washed my face with Clinique Liquid Facial Soap for years—and I mean years! It’s ranked 3 (moderate hazard) on the Cosmetics Safety Database and it’s priced at $16.50. I love this cleanser because it foams up just enough to make me feel like it's working, it smells light and clean and it leaves my face acne-free and healthy-looking. Therefore, I was skeptical (even a bit nervous) to test out the four brands below. After all, once a girl’s got a good cleanser that works, she doesn’t want to dabble (it's like finally finding the right man!). But the brand is a ‘non-signer’ of the Cosmetics Safety Database and the product has high concerns for allergies, so I thought it’s high time I test some other, more organic, safe cosmetics.|
